BSc Agriculture is a 4 year undergraduate course that primarily focuses on research and practices in agricultural science, dealing with disciplines like Genetics and Plant Breeding, Agricultural Microbiology, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, etc.

It is a professional degree recognized by the Government of India in the field of agricultural science. This course aims to provide training to implement modern agricultural techniques and technologies in the real world scenario.

BSc Agriculture Eligibility

Students who wish to study this course should have 

  • Completion of Intermediate (12 years of school education) in Science stream.
  • Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or Mathematics as the subjects of study.

Apart from this, candidates possessing Intermediate in Agriculture stream (limited states) are also eligible to apply for the course.

The admission is either done on the basis of Merit and Direct Interview or through BSc Agriculture Entrance Exams

The average BSc Agriculture fee is around INR 10,000 per year for the majority of the colleges, but for private institutions it is a bit high which can cost around INR 80,000 per year.

The BSc Agriculture Syllabus is formulated in such a way that after the course completion, students can become a successful Agricultural Scientist or Officer, and also go into the research studies in various government and private 

Other major jobs after BSc Agriculture can be Research Officer, Agriculture Loan Officer (in Banks), Quality Assurance Officer, Farm Manager and Operations Manager with agriculture departments. The average starting salary can be between INR 3 to 6 lakh per annum.

Students also have an option to pursue the dual degree courses as described below:

  • BSc Agriculture (Hons.) + MBA Agri-Bussiman Management
  • Integrated BSc (Agriculture) + MBA (Agribusiness)

In terms of higher education, some of the courses after BSc Agriculture are MSc course programs in specializations such as Horticulture, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Biochemistry, Forestry, etc.

BSc Agriculture Admission Process

The admission procedure varies from institute to institute. Some colleges provide direct BSc Agriculture admission on the basis of merit and personal interview, and some colleges conduct national, state level or university level entrance examinations to admit the interested students.

  • For Direct Admission:

Students must fill the college application form whether online or offline before the application deadline in order to be considered for the admission process.



  • For Entrance Exam based Admission:

Students must fill the registration form of one of the many BSc Agriculture Entrance Examination such as KCET 2020KEAM 2020 that offers admission into colleges of Karnataka and Kerala respectively.

Admission is offered on the basis of performance in these examinations, followed by the different rounds of counselling session which usually consist of Group Discussion and Personal Interview. 


BSc Agriculture Entrance Exams

Below are listed some of the entrance examinations that provide admission into this undergraduate course in agriculture science:

  • BHU UET 2020: BHU UET is a common university level examination that offers admission into many UG courses in the reputed Banaras Hindu University (BHU). 
  • AP EAMCET 2020: This exam is a state level examination which grants admission into many courses of agricultural, pharmacy and agricultural disciplines in participating colleges of Andhra Pradesh.
  • CG PAT 2020: This exam is conducted by Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board, Raipur, for admission into BSc Agriculture and BSc Horticulture degree courses, offered by Indira Gandhi Agriculture University (IGAU).
  • SAAT 2020: SAAT is a national level exam conducted by Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University for admission into various UG & PG courses. 
  • UPCATET 2020: This is a state level examination that offers admission into various UG, PG and PhD courses. 
  • OUAT 2020: This is a university level exam conducted by Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) for admission into UG and Agro Polytechnic programs

How to prepare for the BSc Agriculture Entrance Exams?

BSc Agriculture Syllabus

The syllabus and course curriculum is inclusive of class lessons, field trips, lab sessions, practical training, cattle training, etc. 

Subjects such as Soil Microbiology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Statistical Methods, Post Harvest Technology, etc. are included in the BSc Agriculture syllabus. 

The program structure is made in such a way that students can independently work in future as an Agricultural Scientist, Agricultural Officer, Plant Breeder, Animal Breeder, etc. in different setups in both government and private sectors.
