Karnal

National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal is an institute of the Indian Council
of Agricultural Research (ICAR) located in Karnal, Haryana. It came into
existence in 1941 as part of the Central Directorate of Animal Husbandry and
Dairying.
In 1945, it
was named 'Central Research Institute for Milk Production. The institute was
relocated to Karnal in 1960.
It is an
agricultural research institute focused on developing dairy technology and is
currently a constituent college of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research
(ICAR) that undertakes teaching as well as research in dairy science-related
fields.
The institute
is located in Karnal, Haryana, and has an area of 350 acres (1.4 km2). The main
purpose behind locating it at Karnal was to develop high-yielding breeds
suitable for dairy farming and also to study their adaptability in different
agro-climatic zones.

Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana

Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous body set up under a
resolution passed by Parliament in 1956 to formulate policies for agriculture

Ministry of Agriculture, and the Government of India.
The
institute was formerly known as the Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research
and was established in 1876 as one of the first multi-disciplinary research
centers in India and remains among premier national institutes specializing in

ICAR
provides leadership in accelerating food productivity across diverse
agro-ecological zones for a predominantly rural country with about two-thirds
living in villages.
