How would you like to save money and make your life easier? How about protecting the environment while doing it?

If you’re interested in pursuing a greener lifestyle, then you need to check out these 10 start-ups that are revolutionizing the world of agriculture and making it easier than ever to lead an eco-friendly life in India.

1). Ninjacart

Ninjacart is a logistics company that allows users to place orders on its website and have products delivered within two hours by a local seller.

The company handles fulfillment, warehousing, and delivery so its sellers don’t have to. It’s essentially Amazon but with farmers instead of warehouses.

It was started by Co-founder & CEO Nandan Reddy March 2016, who was previously an entrepreneur-in-residence at Accel Partners.

Since then, it has raised more than $24 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, SoftBank, and BEENEXT (the latter also invested in Grofers).

Ninjacart covers 40 Indian cities across 7 states and employs more than 2,000 people today.

2) AGrievance

Farmers are often at a disadvantage when it comes to bargaining power with large corporations who buy their produce.

AGrievance is an app that allows farmers, along with NGOs and government bodies, to create a database of farms and associated data that can be easily accessed by buyer organizations.

This is done using GIS technology that allows buyers and sellers to quickly view average prices at any given region or village.

So far, more than 200 farmers have registered on AGrievance since its inception last month (February 2017).

The app has been made available for free on Android devices and around 40% of its users are located in Delhi NCR while others reside in western states like Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Within two years it will be available across India and other countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan.

3. AgroStar

As a time-saving solution for farmers, AgroStar uses cloud software and big data analytics to help farmers analyze soil health, choose seeds and manage expenses.

The platform offers updated market data and makes it easy for growers to reach out to agronomists or procurements companies.

It also has facilities that allow farmers to connect with other users within their network of peers. Based out of Delhi, AgroStar has been operational since June 2016 and services around 1,500 farmers across eight states.

It intends to provide its technology platforms across all major agricultural states in India by 2020.

4. DeHaat

An online marketplace for farmers and consumers. The company matches buyers with farmers directly, cutting out middlemen who increase prices by buying from hundreds of farmers at a time and reselling at market price.

It currently only has a presence in Delhi and Bangalore but aims to expand nationwide over the next few years.

DeHaat hopes that selling directly to consumers will give it an edge against established e-commerce companies that buy from third parties.

5. Stellapps

Have you heard of Stellapps? It’s a Pune-based start-up that specializes in cloud computing for farmers.

It helps them get real-time data from sensors placed at different parts of their farms. This data can be used to monitor and improve their yields, which should lead to increased profits.

For example, many farmers have trouble with pests since they have no way of predicting or preventing an infestation.

With Stellapps, they'll be able to monitor their crops 24/7, track every aspect of growth, and apply solutions only when it is necessary.

The service is completely free so there are no costs associated with setting up sensors or maintaining systems—which are typically what make start-ups unsustainable for farmers on a small scale.

6. Bijak

A2B logistics start-up, Bijak has a presence in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The start-up offers multi-modal services that cater to all sorts of bulk commodities including animal feed, organic manure, wood chips, and construction materials.

With plans of expanding its service area within Maharashtra, Bijak is setting up a new fleet of trucks that will be dedicated to inter and intra-state transport.

By 2021, Bijak plans to have 25 operational vehicles for its transportation services at 10 locations across Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Throughout 2018 and 2019, it can expect even more new developments from them as they move towards their goal of growth.

7. CropIn Technology

This agritech startup has already raised $300K and is a sure-shot winner when it comes to investment options.

Based out of Chennai, CropIn uses predictive analytics (AI) and big data to provide farmers with an advanced warning on what’s needed most, be it crop protection or nutrients.

They also have a partnership with IBM that helps gather more information based on soil samples and weather patterns—for example, if their products have worked successfully on farms like yours.

This can be very useful since different soils require different types of fertilizers. Their services are available across South Asia—they’re currently helping farmers in Sri Lanka and Kenya as well!

8. EM3 AgriServices

Aiming to improve Agri-based supply chain and agriculture management, EM3 AgriServices provides complete outsourcing services in agriculture.

The company has a strong presence across seed procurement, crop protection, warehousing, cold chain logistics, and farming management.

EM3 AgriServices also offers risk management services such as crop insurance and farm insurance. The start-up operates out of 12 branches including Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli. The current employee strength is 464.

9. Intello Labs

With their roots in education and plenty of experience in agriculture, Intello Labs have started to make waves with a new way of looking at pest control: instead of fighting pests, they’re trying to create an environment where pests don’t want to live.

With their first product expected out by late 2019, Intello has already raised funding from some well-known names and garnered massive amounts of interest from companies like Walmart and Monsanto.

It is a prediction that by 2022, Intello will be one of India’s major agricultural companies.

10. Aibono

Bengaluru-based Aibono is a digital agriculture technology company focused on helping Indian farmers become profitable by giving them access to resources like weather updates, crop prices, and equipment requirements.

The company was founded in 2016 by V. Harish, Ramesh Kollapaneni, and Ajay Anchan. It has since raised funding from Accel Partners and SAIF Partners.

By using data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), Aibono helps farmers with efficient inputs for farming, so they can increase their output.

The company also provides financial advice, thus helping them plan future investments more effectively.
